The NIAA and FARMERS INSURANCE GROUP, “Partners in High School Athletics”

The Farmers Insurance Group, the largest multi-coverage insurer in Nevada, is a proud co-presenting partner of high school state championship athletic events for the Nevada Interscholastic Activities Association.

The Farmers Insurance Group has joint naming rights for the association’s state finals. The “NIAA (Division I, I-A, III & IV) Nevada State High School (boys/girls) (sport) Championships, presented by the Las Vegas Review-Journal and Farmers Insurance Group” title covers 60 events contested in 16 sports. The NIAA-Farmers’ title partnership enhances the NIAA’s ability to conduct events at first-class venues, provide support to its member schools and student-athletes, and offer many special programs and projects to its administrators, coaches and officials.

“We are very pleased and excited about our partnership with the NIAA,” says the Farmers Insurance Group, Inc. “Farmers has a long-standing history of developing educational materials and programs addressing issues that are important to students from all backgrounds. Partnering with the NIAA is an extension of Farmers’ commitment to teenagers and their local communities throughout the great state of Nevada.”

A key component of the NIAA – Farmers partnership is the offering of $30,000 in scholarships to Nevada’s top student-athletes. Details of the NIAA - Farmers – Lifetouch Top 10 scholarship program, including eligibility requirements, are outlined below. Farmers also offers a variety of educational initiatives, support programs and wellness materials for each high school community through their local agent offices.

“On behalf of the NIAA staff, Board of Control, 105 member schools and the more than 38,000 high school student-athletes in the Silver State, I want to thank the Farmers Insurance Group for their overwhelming support of the association and their commitment to our local communities,” said Eddie Bonine, Executive Director of the NIAA. “The scholarships and special programs we offer our student-athletes help to enrich their high school experience. These things only help in giving Nevada’s youth a head start into the real world.”

In support of community outreach, Farmers created eight web-based material packets including The American Promise, which is devoted to helping teachers, professors and educators bring democracy to life in their classrooms, Freedom’s Song, a documentary that celebrates a century of African-American history, and Just for Teachers, which is devoted to teachers who work tirelessly to develop this country’s greatest resource, its children.

“This is a wonderful partnership for both the NIAA and the Farmers Insurance Group,” said Donnie Nelson, Assistant Director of the NIAA. “The NIAA has implemented a unique state association financial scholarship program which connects with our student-athletes on educational and community levels. In school, you are a student first and then an athlete,” Nelson added. “In life, being a contributing member to your school and being a standout citizen in your community are very important character traits. High school student-athletes represent so much that is positive.”
